MediaTek Intros 3 nm SoC Designed for AI-First Googlebooks

2026-09-24

MediaTek announced the Dimensity CX C10 Max, calling it the inaugural system-on-chip in its new Compute Experience portfolio. Fabricated on a 3-nanometer process node, the processor is engineered for premium, fanless laptops, specifically targeting the emerging Googlebook device category.

The release appears to represents a strategic shift for MediaTek, extending its high-performance Dimensity branding beyond smartphones and tablets to compete directly in the premium mobile computing market.

All-Big-Core Compute and Graphics

At the center of the Dimensity CX C10 Max is an eight-core Arm CPU built entirely on an all-big-core architecture. This configuration maximizes both single-threaded and multi-threaded performance by omitting traditional efficiency cores in favor of high-performance cores tailored for demanding, desktop-class workloads.

Graphics processing is handled by an integrated 11-core GPU designed to support high-resolution displays, seamless media playback, and hardware-accelerated rendering. By utilizing an advanced 3-nm manufacturing process, MediaTek ensures that the chip operates within the strict thermal envelopes required by ultra-thin, fanless laptop form factors.

The thermal and power efficiency of the 3-nm node allows the SoC to deliver sustained peak performance while achieving up to 19 hours of battery life on a standard 60 Whr reference battery system.

Agentic AI and the NPU 890

To address the growing demand for local artificial intelligence processing, the Dimensity CX C10 Max integrates MediaTek’s eighth-generation neural processing unit, the NPU 890. This dedicated AI engine is capable of delivering up to 55 tera-operations per second (TOPS), placing it well above the baseline performance requirements for modern AI PCs.

This level of computational power enables the hardware to run complex generative AI models and agentic AI workloads entirely on the device. By processing these tasks locally, the NPU reduces latency, minimizes reliance on cloud data centers, and enhances user privacy. MediaTek says the hardware is specifically optimized to accelerate intelligent background tasks, dynamic resource management, and the automated assistants that are integral to next-generation laptop operating systems.

Elevating the Compute Portfolio

The introduction of the Dimensity CX line consolidates MediaTek’s highest-end computing silicon under a unified brand, distinguishing it from the company’s existing Kompanio chips which are traditionally deployed in standard Chromebooks. The C10 Max is positioned to rival other Arm-based laptop processors, including the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Plus and Apple’s M-series silicon.

With its combination of an all-big-core CPU, high-capacity NPU, and 3-nm power efficiency, it appears that the Dimensity CX C10 Max establishes a new hardware foundation for the next wave of intelligent computing devices. The silicon provides original equipment manufacturers with the necessary architecture to build highly capable, AI-driven laptops that merge advanced mobile efficiency with traditional PC performance.
